Christmas magic takes a suspicious amount of work from women 🤔
And I LOVE Christmas.
I love the twinkly lights.
The food.
The presents.
The cheesy Christmas films.
The whole bloody lot.
But somewhere along the way, a lot of us became the people responsible for making the magic happen.
- We're the ones remembering that Mum mentioned something she liked back in September.
- Wondering what on earth to buy Dad.
- Remembering the teacher present.
- The Secret Santa.
- The stocking fillers.
- The cards.
- Who we're seeing when.
- What we're eating.
- Whether we've got enough wrapping paper.
And waking up at 3am thinking:
SHIT. I FORGOT AUNTIE SUE. 😂
And that's before we've even started wrapping everything.
Most of your effort is completely invisible
The funny thing is, most of this work is completely invisible. Nobody sees the notes app full of gift ideas. The screenshots you've been saving since August. The parcel tracking. The mental calculations. The constant little thoughts running in the background while you're doing approximately 937 other things.
They just see Christmas.
And hopefully, if we've done our job properly, they see the magic.
But here's your reminder:
You are allowed to make Christmas easier for yourself. You don't get extra Christmas points for leaving everything until December.
You don't have to find the PERFECT present for every single person.
You don't have to spend a fortune to show somebody you love them.
And you definitely don't have to run yourself ragged creating everyone else's lovely Christmas.
So if you can tick something off now, tick it off.
If you see something in October and immediately think 'Sarah would LOVE that'- buy it.
Write down who you've bought for.
Hide it somewhere you'll actually remember.
And give December-you one less thing to think about.
Because she'll still have plenty to do.
And perhaps, when December arrives, instead of frantically trying to remember what you've forgotten you might actually get to enjoy some of that Christmas magic you've spent so much time creating for everyone else.
Do it for December-you.
